I love my city and my life literally revolves around (parallel at times) it.This is gonna be my modest attempt to share info about Bombay's people, its places, markets, maidans, institutions, transport systems, politicians, socialites, food and eating habits, sports, business, underworld, fashion and life. I shall also post Stock market tips, News and Rumours which I normally get from my many friends and sources.

Outside Maratha mandir, Bombay Central there is this shady, sleazy looking, not so appealing stall which sells the most amazing 'veg ragda chana' and 'dahi vadas'
the contents of the ragda chana are
boiled kabuli chana
hot ragda wid potatoes chunks
watana
salt
cummin,pepper masala
mirch masala
mustard oil
saffron colored mix spices n masalas
tamarind chutney
meetha chutney
theeka chutney
lotsa onion
nimbu
coriander
pudina
The way he makes is damn cool, he takes some boiling hot Kabuli chanas from the stove, pours some gravy, slices the big aloo pieces then puts some yellow watana then puts the chutneys, all spices, lil mustard oil, mixes it in styles and then put lotsa onions and coriander n pudina then cleans the bowl from the sides and hands it over...
All served in a China bowl fullto upto da brim, ekdum yummy hot n spicy.... total paisa vasool, cost wonly 5 bucks!!!
warning : not recommended for the weak stomachs and people who swear by the Frangipani and Taj
trivia about Maratha Mandir - This theatre has been playing Dilwale Dulhaniya le jayenge for the last 500 weeks, past 8-10 years and still continues to play..... the tickets are really cheap under 25 bucks.....
Often used by couples and people having affairs for total privacy at unbeliavable costs..... Where else will you get A/c facilty and privacy at the cost of a Moosambi juice :)) and also you can check mail for free at the Reliance internet kiosk :))

Cocktails we had, pls dont ask me the names
B'day boy wid da Walrus mucchi!!
me n shantanu.
Sidewok has some of the best cocktails in Bombay and one of the best bartenders in Virendra who can mix some really mean drinks.
Drinks were expensive but very colorful, more than the drink the way they were made by virendra was fun to watch.
A special drink a green colored mint flavoured iced drink with a bit from all the booze from the bar is named after me Sat'2's Poison :))..

Go n Watch it preferably in Shreyas,Eros, Deep Mandir, KT, AJanta but not in a INOX, FAME etc where the public is dead and unanimated.
The story = well bacha bacha of Bombay knows who's life the main protagonist is copied from, though I don't like certain things about Bal Thackeray I find certain things about him right and cool. More on that some other time.
No Ganas, no bajana, no wet rain dance, no jumping over terraces, no bakwas ...... only dialogs and silent scenes....

A week after the rumours spread people are still heading to juhu chowpatty for the diamonds, a great equalizer and leveler the gold rush oops diamond rush has seen rich and the poor scavenging the dirty beach for the stones :))
Sometimes the mob psychosis can never be explained, I too was once part this kinda great search a few years ago.
When in college we guys used to go to he beach on Monday's to try our luck with gold, precious jewels, coins, and other stuff...Apart from dirtying my hands and clothes, I did manage to find a 1 gm gold part of some ladies locket.
Juhu, Dadar, Girgaum Chowpatty, Aksa, Madh, Gorai beaches each have over 2 lakh visitors every Sunday, there is a very high probability that they will lose something or drop something.... If you are lucky Bombay beaches can be a gold-diamond mine :))
Take a metal detector to increase the probability factor :)

This is BMC for you the ever striking and taking the city to ransom, often pampered, lazy, fit for nothing chodus of the nth order.......There's a lil truth in it, but there thousands of real hardworking and committed people in the BMC who do heroic work risking their life and limb doing everything from cleaning the gutters, drains,Manholes, Hospitals, Morgues, Sewage and toilets of this city of 14 million people who shit and piss anywhere and everywhere.
I wonder if Bombay is in a Fucked state now, what would it be without these unsung heroes.
Mid-Day has got something to say about them

My entire family was glued to the screen on a Sunday evening not to watch a cricket match or Mallu movie but to watch the Anil Ambani press conference. His first press conf. after his settlement with his Brother.
Anil is gonna do some real kickass stuff.
Companies he has Reliance Capital, Reliance Energy, Reliance Infocomm.........
Mega public issues expected in Reliance Infocomm, buybacks expected from Rel. Capital and Rel Energy........His plans and his vision makes all these three companies a good solid long term buy...
Anil Dhirbhai Enterprises as it known is bidding for Trans Harbour link in Bombay, Bombay Airport, MUTP projects in Bombay....
If you are bullish on India, this is a must have in your portfolio....
Last but not the least Anil is still a shareholder in Reliance Industries :))
Tirupati Balaji has also been instrumental is finding the solutiona and enriching the investor by over 10,000 crores since last month :))

Patil's guards slap reporter
this is the Mid-day version, the other version by the vernacular media is that the Female journo was trying to get naughty with RR patil.
There are 3 possibilities either :
1. The journo wasn't the raapchick like BarBalas
2. R R Patil must be having different orientations
3. He is an honest politician doing his job.

Mid-day does a sting operation on the silent or Pakdu bars in Bombay.
I'm after reading this story there will be a zillion tourists and terrorists and wannabe Cham Chams from all over India and abroad wanting to visit the PAdku Bar's.
As usual the Government and MAhila MAndals have made a mess of the existing night life culture......reforming the not so sleazy ladies bars in Pakdu Bars...
Mid-day by giving it front page coverage has given it total PUBLIC-SITY ....... over 7 lakh readers and over 10 lakhs who borrow the copy in the train will surely sniff around some Pakdu bars..
I guess they aren't wrong when they say "Duniya mein jo bhi hota hai ... Peth aur uske Neeche ke liye hota hai"

Yesterday I went to the India Equity Show at the Nehru Centre, I met 3 innovators and leaders of the Indian Computing industry.
Prof. D.B.Phatak
IIT Mumbai
Everytime I listen to Prof Phatak's speeches its so full of nationalism and passion for doing and thinking big for our nation. I think he rocks big time and is a wonderful asset to our nation. We also talked about the 3-6 % equity that is to given to IIT Bombay for the incubation at Kresit. IITB finally after 4 years has a structure in place for accepting equity in return for incubation space and resources.
He has started the eKalavya project on open source with his own money and after doing a yatra to over 70 Engineering colleges to check and improve the level of IT education in India. I think now the government is thinking about funding this mission . I wish him all the best .
you can check it out at http://ekalavya.iitb.ac.in/index.jsp
Prof. Swami Manohar CEO PicoPeta
India's first academic start up with prof's having equity, the makers of the Simputers. Doing wonderful things for people who can't afford a computer and making India proud. As for me I would love to a simputer with Skype,SMS and Email & games.

Rajesh Jain
Netcore
The man behind the Internet revolution in India after selling IndiaWorld to sify for 115 million $.
His blog is must for all those who wanna follow the latest in the emerging tech world & markets.

'D'
RGV thinks he has taken the sole proprietor of educating India about the Underworld......
every Bacha knows about the Haji mastan, Karim Lala, Varda bhai,Bada & Chota Rajan, Ashwin & Amar Naik and Arun Gawli story......
Nuttin new old gyan on 70 MM wid Dolby sound.
I found the movie ok, nuttin great, no music, Isha kopikaar was a total waste, Chunky pandey and Goga Kapoor did some nice stuff... the hero 'D' (Randeep Hoonda)must have spoken some 10-15 sentences in the whole movie....
Overall a well made documentary on the rise of 'D' .......a prequel to Company :))

Best VFM under 50 bucks only on a Chinese Gadi
For every 2 Vada Pav Ghadis there are 5 Chinese Ghadi's in Bombay. The names start from Omkar Chinese stall to Mandarin Pure Chinese to Pure JAin Chinese...
One cant juss miss it, red in color, usually with diwali lights and series running all year round, gas cylinders, masalas....
There are there everywhere on the streets of Bombay after 6 pm in every nook and corner of the city. 90% of the people who eat Chinese don't know what to order so they ask the guy normally a Bahadur or Thapa who look authentic Chinese.
Most popularly ordered stuff one by two chicken fried rice and noodles and manchow soup ...
there prices are normally same all over the city except in Nariman point,VT, Churchgate area where you get extra gravy wid one veg Manchurian piece.
Stuff which you get unlimited schewan Chutney (not sauce), vinegar, Soya sauce, chilly sauce.......
Stuff which I normally order
chicken triple rice ( schewan rice, noodles, fry noodles, omlette on top, with Manchurian gravy with chicken pakodas = Price 35 bucks)
veg/chicken Hakka noodles ( 25/28 bucks)
veg/chicken Fried rice with gravy ( 25/28 bucks)
Lung Fung soup/ Manchow soup...I dunno why its called so but I end up putting all the sauces to make it rocket. ( Always have it one by two ... 20 bucks full)
Chicken lollypop ( 6 pieces =35 bucks)
Stuff I don't recommend
American Chopsuey ( sweet stuff targeted for gujjus)
Chicken 65
Chicken Hong Kong
Sweet Corn soup ( Either the corn or the flour is ever missing)
There are many Chinese stalls that allow you to have your booze in a clandestine operation...i.e steel glass mein
to sum it up
When - 6 pm to 1 am
where - all over the city
why - coz you like it and don't want to spend much
what to eat - read the blog
budget - around 50 bucks per head
Health Warning - don't eat too much rocket stuff, can be not so hygienic at times ( at over 100 degrees Gas flame dunno wot will survive)
Bombay mein jo Chinese milta hai woh China mein bhi nahi milta :)

We had an office junta lunch at Delhi Darbar, the food quality has deteriorated big time... though I ate 3.5 rumali rotis, butter chicken and Pahadi Chicken Masala and Dal tAdka......total full tummy but no major taste :))
After office me and my friend Bhatta decided to check out the if the book sellers are back as I wanted to a book "Maximum City". Bad luck... all the bookwallahs from Oval Maidan upto fountain.. barring a few have been evicted, though the media and some local politicians have been little supportive but having spoke to one of the book sellers he said " Matter abhi court mein hai... Aap ko mallum Adalat mein kya chutiyagiri hota aur zindagi nikal jayegi chakkar lagate lagate" .... I hope its not true ...
There are book sellers near Stan Chart Bldg till Khadi Bhavan but they aren't keeping much stock for fear of BMC.
Had a sukha Bhel minus mirchi, Malai wala Nariyal pani after doing the recce.
Since I was a kid I've always been fascinated by the "Kuch bhi Utao Dus Rupiye Mein" stalls.... outside the churchgate subway there is one of them a zillion things from torches to yo-yo's to Chinese batteries to jumbo ball point pens ....... I bought a jumbo red fluorescent Ball point pen .. which looks like some Jedi weapon :)
Also bought a few magazines to kill time on a Sunday from A.H Wheeler at the Station. ....Magazines I bought Outlook Money, Business Today, Business World...
Sunday is another day .....A day I look forward to zzzzzzzzzzz.

This is the dirty beach behind my office at Mittal Tower which I see every day from my office window, it stinks big time of fishes, crabs, garbage and god knows what.... But this image made me change my mind, this is also the real Bombay.... The real smell of Bombay..
No matter where I go the smell of the Mahim Creek, Fishes at Churchgate, smell of kababs and chicken at Bade Miya, the Chinese stalls at Nariman point are so much a part of my DNA that I have a craving to come back.....
Like they say love has no smell......

Its been ages since I had some decent Brun Maska, Paani kam Chai and Pudding , used to have it on a daily basis at an Irani Hotel in Shivaji Park, Dadar.
Most of the Irani restaurant's have either sold off to Shetty's or are selling PAv Bhaji, Pizza and Chinese... I guess another metamorphism of a key element of Bombay's soul.

Fed-up, Mumbai's top bookie surrenders
Shoban KalaChowkie knew that it would be better to get himself arrested, get out on bail easily and avoid faltoo mein panga with the cops, so that he could be around when the reaction begins with India v/s Australia.
Bombay police is the biggest gang with a toli of 16000 men, D company, Rajan, Chota shakeel, Thakur, Mancherkar,Poojari gang combined are not more than 2000-3000.
Cricket Betting should be made legal and the government can earn huge revenues by way of taxes and spare the middle class of taxes.

Apart the filmy music that is played everywhere in Bombay the real music of is the Nasik Dhol played by the infinite Banjo Party's on streets during Ganpati, Holi, Indian cricket matches, weddings, election campaigns etc .
Everyone will stop, look around if he knows anyone,if no one around he too might join the crowd and shake a leg or two.. marao a few whistles, unleash the wilder side or the tapori in everyone of us.
I love this music and this is one music I can get up and dance without having the feeling am I doing the right thing, coz this cool ekdum Raanti dance is all about being yourself and discovering yourself... this was later discovered by Art of Living :))
Download this really awesome Nasik Dhol music ...... Don't juss listen, unleash yourself :)

School Kids protesting against the Govt Decision.
All the maidans in Bombay will not be the same again if the DF Govt has its way, as such there is shortage of place to play and now this, the Government should find some other way of collecting money or else Cricket will die a slow death in Bombay's Maidans
As such all main maidans are encroached by druggies and hookers and now the Nasik Dhol and Shaadi party will add to the mess.
Azad Maidans is full of political rally's and people who are into fasting for no purpose.
Cross Maidans is for Circuses and the Melas
Only Oval Maidans & Shivaji Park has some cricket happening.
All the remaining cricket pitches on Marine Drive viz. Police, Hindu, Parsi, Islam, Grant Medical Gymkhanas are nothing but a money making racket they pay paltry sums of money to the Govt for their leases and earn crores without or with minimal investment for the betterment of the game.
Mid-day's report Numerous weddings, cricket's funeral?
